A bare cross and an empty tomb.

A bare cross and an empty tomb.

This Easter I want to encourage you to set everything aside for a little while and simply come before your Lord and Savior.  Find a quiet spot for a few minutes away from the noise and “to do list” … then focus your thoughts and devotion on the two matchless scenes that define our faith, the bare cross and the empty tomb.

Mark 16:5-6

Entering the tomb, they (Mary and Mary) saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.”

Mary and Mary went to anoint Jesus body with spices at the Tomb at the end of the Sabbath.  Instead, they began to encounter Jesus in a new way because the cross was bare and the tomb was empty.

When your life is in a constant state of pedal to the metal, God’s silence is deafening.  We need to slow down, listen and hear from our great Counselor, the Holy Spirit.

Rather than just visiting the tourist traps of Christianity, we should put the safe travel guide down and enjoy the real culture of being in His presence.

I pray that this Easter you will be able to have some time of reflection and I hope you will also be able to join us at Community Bible Fellowship for Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter as we spend some time together focused on Jesus, the cross and the empty tomb.
