Is God Even Listening?
James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
God reaches out to the humble, because He knows we are teachable when we are free from pride and arrogance. Our attitude is connected to our ability to joyfully follow His leading. He also loves us enough to give us opportunities to grow in our humility so we can hear His truth and be transformed to becoming doers of the word.
Psalm 10:17 O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble and oppressed, You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear to hear.
Most of us live like we are God too often. We put our request into the “Almighty Vending Machine”, push “2-B”, and expect our demand “to be” carried out as we instructed.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
We can’t hide are sins from God no matter how hard we try. If we humble ourselves and honestly confess our sins, God doesn’t only respond, He answers with grace and mercy. When we reach out in brokenness and honest humility, He takes pleasure in healing our souls.
In what areas of your life do you struggle to admit your weaknesses?
Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
We can’t grow closer to the Lord when we are trying to hide who we are. He wants real fellowship, not us just trying to parrot the things we think we are supposed to say. Humility brings intimacy.
