Invest In The Future

How we live matters. When we teach by how we live, instead of by what we say, we earn the right to be heard and followed.

Joshua 4:21-22   He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’

Don’t allow your legacy to be destroyed by a hostile spirit. What we reap, we sow. Often the crop will be harvested by the next generation. Do the spiritual work of forgiveness, and restoration, so you can leave a legacy of blessing to your children, and the younger generation at church and work.

If I fear God more than people, I’m not easily led into toxic life decisions. I’ll be on the right path and that means blessings for myself and those who follow my path. I have a pile of rocks in my office and at home that remind me of all the times God delivered me from trying and destructive situations. I also have prayer journals that remind me how God has answered my prayers. Not always in the ways I wanted. Sometimes He changes my situation, but most of the time He changes me. Transformation is often a painful process, but always worth it when the Lord is leading. Our behavior changes because of how we choose to think.

Galatians 6:7     Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

What you plant is what you harvest. You can’t plant squash and be disappointed that you didn’t get oranges. You can’t plant anger, resentment and hostility and get peace, joy, and love. If you sow resentment and cynicism into your relationships, you will leave a wake behind you of broken and unpleasant people. When your heart is seething with sour acidity, all your relationships will be infected with that poison. Hurt people, hurt people. When we forgive everyone who has wronged us, our children see piled up stones, that leave a beautiful legacy of forgiveness and wholeness. Are some negative choices you’ve made carried on in your family?

What can you do to break those cycles and bring healing?
