Do You Find Prayer A Duty Or A Delight?

Why is God’s goodness vital to our motivation to pray? If, knowing who God is, shapes the way we pray, then what is God really like? God is all-knowing and all-powerful. He is holy, just, kind and loving.

Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation.

How has God’s goodness affected the way you pray to him?

If God isn’t good, then why would anybody pray to Him? Have you ever wondered, why is there evil in the world? God is all powerful, but not abusive. God doesn’t force us to do good. Evil exists because God gave us the freedom to choose, and we choose not to do good a lot of the time. Evil is easy to explain. People have free will and there are consequences to our sin. The more difficult question to answer is, why is there good in our world?

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.

He cares for those who trust in him,
If we are just well-developed animals, and there is no right or wrong, and life is just survival of the fittest, then why is there good in the world. The answer is we are created in God’s image and God is good. When you understand that God is always good, you’re going to enjoy praying to Him. Prayer won’t be a duty it will be a delight because you can trust Him.

Do you trust God more than yourself? Are there any consequences to your sin, or the sins of others, that you realize you’ve been blaming God for?
Talk with Him, be real, confess and be mentally, emotionally, spiritually and relationally healed. God is good and He wants you to truly know Him.
