Will My Real Identity Please Stand Up?
John 8:34-36 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

In a world full of secrets, addictions, and fears, it’s difficult to truly feel free. The compulsions we struggle with lead us to live lonely broken lives that hide who we really are. Is there any sin that you are a slave to? God has a plan for you to be free in Christ and no longer live a secret life.

The truth that God’s enemy doesn’t want you to know is that you can be free in Christ, truly free. When Jesus came back to the temple in Nazareth, He read from Isaiah these words.

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

After Jesus read these words he told the people, the Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day in Him. Liberty to the captives or freedom from the bondage of sin, is what we have been given. Then why are so many believers in bondage to secret sins and addictions? Because we are still living like Satan’s lies about our identity are true.

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
God cares about prisoners who are in bondage to sin. If we believe what God’s word says about our identity instead of believing in the lies of the enemy, we will be truly free. Whose message will you listen to?
What lies of Satan do you need to replace with God’s truth?
