I think one of the things we struggle the most with today is an unthankful heart. We have so much, and yet we worship the things in this world. We want more.
All throughout the Old and New Testament, God makes promises about preparing a place for us. We can be truly thankful that God keeps his promises. Over and over in the Bible we see God make and keep His promises.
In the book of Isaiah, we see God promise to rain down His righteousness on His people. They were lost, without leadership, without direction. He promised to rebuild Jerusalem and bless them with His righteousness.
Isaiah 45:8
“You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it.
God made the promise to rain down His blessing, and He did! Let’s not settle for empty, false worship. We can trust God more than we can trust ourselves. God’s blessings lead us onto the right path where joy and peace can be experienced.
It was the same in Isaiah’s day, that it is in ours. People insist on worshiping false gods. The idols we worship may have changed, but we all worship something. Isaiah exposes the foolishness of the idols.
Isaiah 44:9
All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless.
It says, a person who chops down a tree, uses part of it for fuel, and uses the rest of it to make himself a god, is a fool. Nowadays we still worship the things we build. Our careers and success can become our first priority. When we worship at the altar of success we are not standing on solid ground. Everything can change instantly.
