The Tempter Uses Leverage
Are there any negative emotions that regularly leave you exposed to Satan’s attacks? There is a TV show called Leverage. It’s about a team of thieves who come together with a cop to help people who are being used and mistreated by someone in power. They bring justice by finding a weakness and using that leverage to destroy their lives and take away their power. This is what the demonic forces try to do with us, except it’s flipped. The enemy bans together to create havoc by using leverage to destroy our lives. If they can just find a foothold into your life, they will exploit it in every way possible and then heap on the guilt so you beating yourself up.
Ephesians 4:27
Do not give the devil a foothold.
Is there an area in your life where you are doubting God? Don’t give Satan a foothold in your life to start leveraging your weaknesses and mess you up. He uses a long bar of negativity to gain leverage by pushing any destructive emotion. Negative attitudes and emotions give the enemy a strong foothold in your life so he can harm you at will.
Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Your heart controls your emotions, so to experience victory over temptation don’t focus on what you are trying to avoid, instead ask the Holy Spirit to expose the thoughts that the enemy is encouraging you to focus on and replace them with God’s truth about your situation.
Colossians 2:8-10
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.
We need to fill our minds with God’s Word if we want to fight temptation. If the enemy can control your thoughts, he can control your behavior. He is gifted at manipulation, using emotions and ideas causing you to doubt God.
