The Power of Choice
What negative thoughts have you been focusing on?

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that
they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the
livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move
along the ground.”

We were created in the image of God. Nothing else in all creation was
created in the image of God. He’s given us the ability to make decisions we
know to be right or wrong. Freedom is a great blessing and it’s also a great
curse because we make bad choices all the time that hurt us and the
people in our lives. Especially those closest to us.

Colossians 3:7-10
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you
must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice,
slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since
you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the
new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Have you ever noticed that some people who are dealt a bad hand in life
go on to mature in their walk with the Lord, while others are in good
families, and attend healthy churches, and they still struggle greatly in their
spiritual walk? Why does this happen? As Christians we are in the process
of being renewed or sanctified. The one thing that can slow us down in our
sanctification isn’t our circumstances, it’s our choices. We can’t control our
circumstances, but we can control our choices.

Our identity is affected by our choices. What choices will we make today
that will positively affect the rest of our lives?
What emotional wounds in your life have made it hard for you to make
good choices? What do you need from God to help you overcome those
emotional wounds? Will you pray, asking Him for help in making decisions?
What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through these scriptures?
