The Power and Importance Of Mercy From God

Psalm 25:6 Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.

Grace means getting what we don’t deserve, and mercy means not getting what we do deserve. Both are true of God’s love for us, and we need both in our lives. We don’t deserve God’s mercy and we definitely can’t earn it, but whenever we turn to God in prayer, we can take comfort in knowing He will always respond with mercy.
God’s mercy will make all the difference in our lives. When we reach out for His mercy, no matter how broken we are, He gladly responds with His mercy and makes us new creations, frees us from our guilt, and moves mountains for us that we could never move ourselves.

Acts 2:21 Anyone who asks for mercy from the Lord shall have it and shall be saved.

God makes eternity ours through His mercy because He made us to last forever. But because our sin separates us from His Holiness, God died for our sins so we could be made knew. We won’t receive what we deserve because of God’s mercy.

Galatians 5:1-2 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

In His mercy for us, God forgives us and free us and takes care of our past sins and guilt. We don’t have to live in shame and guilt anymore. God’s freedom gives us His power to be transformed and the past no longer needs to control us or the decisions we make.

James 2:13b Mercy triumphs over judgment.
