Good To Go (Series On End Times)

Daniel 9:20-23
While I was saying these things in my prayer to the Lord, my God, confessing my sins and the sins of the people of Israel and praying for God’s holy hill, 21Gabriel came to me. (I had seen him in my last vision.) He came flying quickly to me about the time of the evening sacrifice, while I was still praying. 22 He taught me and said to me, “Daniel, I have come to give you wisdom and to help you understand. 23 When you first started praying, an answer was given, and I came to tell you, because God loves you very much. So think about the message and understand the vision.

Gabriel also announced the arrival of John the Baptist and\ Jesus, ruffly five hundred years later.

Daniel 9:24
“God has ordered four hundred ninety years for your people and your holy city for these reasons: to stop people from turning against God; to put an end to sin; to take away evil; to bring in goodness that continues forever; to bring about the vision and prophecy; and to appoint a most holy place.

Danie was given inside information about something that would happen at the end of 490 years for the Jewish people.

The Jewish people will be blessed.

* They would stop turning against God
* They would witness an end to sin.
* They would see the temple in Jerusalem rededicated.

Before you do the math, Daniel gives another prophecy.

Daniel 9:25b
A command will come to rebuild Jerusalem. The time from this command until the appointed leader comes will be forty-nine years and four hundred thirty-four years.

Gabriel is talking about Jesus the Messiah.
The Angel mentioned two groups of time. 49 + 434 = 483
When does the countdown for 483 years begin?
When was the command to rebuild the temple given?
When was the city rebuilt?

Nehemiah lived 130 years after Daniel received this prophecy. He asked Artaxerxes to rebuild the temple. The King funded the project.

Nehemiah 2:1
In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before,

The command was in 444 BC. The Hebrew calendar has 360 days in a year, and leap months instead of leap years. The 483rd year occurred during Passover of AD 33, on April 6th. The very day Jesus rode in on the donkey for the Triumphal Entry.

Daniel 9:26a
After the four hundred thirty-four years the appointed leader will be killed,

It took 49 years to rebuild the temple and 434 years later Jesus died.
