We all struggle with a heart of a Pharisee

We all struggle with a heart of a Pharisee We have a lot of people struggling with isolation and depression. Last week God challenged me with Matthew 15:18 as I was thinking about people who I disagreed with. I wrote down some questions realizing I needed to repent. This exercise helped me, and I hope it helps you. Matthew 15:18       But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. Do you…

The Dicipline of Obedience

This Week Elder Chair Home Haynes shares with us scriptures relating to Obedience to the Lord.   Discipline of Obedience Deuteronomy 13:4 It is the Lord your God you must follow and Him you must revere. Keep His commands and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him. 1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice…

Freedom Has A Purpose

Freedom Has A Purpose We are free in Christ. What does that mean? I’ve been going through Galatians for my devotions the last few weeks and I came to Galatians 5 on the 4th of July. There I read, Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” I was trying to understand how my three adopted children who are…

What is the Truth about Me?

Truth-About-Me Above is a link to a PDF from Neil Anderson’s writings  (It’s OK to click on it!  ) This is an amazing organized scripture list renouncing the lies we all hear from the enemy.  Your weapon is Truth and that is found in the scriptures attached.  Save this, print this and perhaps post this close to you throughout the day.  You’ll soon memorize the scripture and add another piece of armor.

How to be more intentional about spending time in God’s word.

Ask God to speak to you through today’s verses. (Example: Romans 8:1-2) After reading the text, summarize them in your own words. Rewrite it in a way that would enable you to easily explain it to a friend. Reread the scripture and compare it to your summary. Is there something you added or missed?                                        If needed, modify your summary to reflect the big idea in the verses. Ask yourself, what is the Holy Spirit saying to me through these scriptures?…

THIS SUNDAY:  July 19th Avoiding Landmines in the Unseen Battle Ephesians: 6 10-18 Spiritual Warfare: The Unseen Battle Series The Armor of God 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put…

Can Wisdom Bring Healing to our Country?

Can wisdom bring healing to our country?            by Pastor Matthew James 1:5  If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God. Wisdom is a gift from a very generous God, but can anyone get it?   Is wisdom different from knowledge? Colossians 2:2-4  My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of…

Assurance

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION – Elder Jim shedd Jesus’ parable of the sower and the seed; Matthew 13 –The sower (the Holy Spirit) and the seed (God’s Word) are effective and good, but the field  or soil must accept and allow the seed to take root and grow.  The context is about how receptive and open we (people) are to the Gospel message and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. So how can we know that God’s seed has been firmly…

What’s God’s answer to what’s happening?

What’s God’s answer to what’s happening?  Pastor Matthew  6-3-20 We have been experiencing a season of suffering and division and it can feel overwhelming. First the COVID-19 Virus, causing physical separation and fear, and now the killing of George Floyd revealing the depths of relational and racial separation and disunity. It can feel overwhelming at times. When we see someone who’s job is to serve and protect, use their authority to kill and destroy, it can leave us wanting to…

In Our Devotions Attitude Matters

In Our Devotions Attitude Matters Are there some things you may need to change about how you spend your devotion time with God? Psalm 46:10 “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Quiet time, personal devotion, meditating on the word, no matter what you call it, I’ve noticed a greater need personally to be in God’s presence lately. Intimacy with God tends to be more organic when we go through new struggles and experiences. But sometimes I…

New Sermon Series: Being Honest with God: The Psalms

THIS WEEKEND:  5-24-20 How Long Lord? Psalm 13:1-6 During times of extreme hardship and suffering, is when our faith is put to the test. Do we really believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior or are we just reciting platitudes of a slightly religious world view? The Corona-virus has crashed into our world, and it reveals a plethora of world views that can’t answer the problem of suffering and death. So, let’s deal with it. Join us as we…

Who is Jesus, Really?

Who is Jesus…..Really??   Notes from Elder Jim Shedd   Introduction   In his letter to the Colossians, Paul’s first 14 verses stress the “content”  of  the Christian faith as Jesus Christ – the only source of spiritual wisdom and understanding.  We are to keep our focus on Him as our center, and not be tempted to follow strange promises of  “hidden, secret, and special”  knowledge elsewhere.  The content of our faith is bound up in our relationship with God…

God Hasn’t Changed!

God Hasn’t Changed! 1 Peter 1:24-25          For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.” It’s Wednesday of Holy Week, but in many ways if feels like any other evening before a regular Thursday. This year there were no palm branches being passed out by the children last Sunday. No shouts in the sanctuary of “Blessed…
