Fiendishly Finding Footholds
Ephesians 4:22-27 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
An expert climber knows how to find every nook and crevice to establish a solid foothold. Satan is also an expert climber. Gifted at finding every weak nook and anxious crevice. Climbing into our lives, in an effort, to make every foothold a stronghold, to lead us onto the wrong path that leads away from God’s power and truth, into his deep crevices of despair.
John 13:2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
Judas was so defeated by his sin that he took his own life. The enemy creates havoc by using any weakness to discourage us. If He can fiendishly find footholds in our lives, he will exploit them in every way possible and then stack on the guilt, so we beat ourselves up.
Proverbs 4:23 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Your heart controls your emotions, so to experience victory over temptation don’t focus on what you are trying to avoid, instead ask the Holy Spirit to expose the thoughts that the enemy is encouraging you to focus on and replace them with God’s truth about your situation and your real identity.
