Don’t Let Your Wounds Define You!

Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Hurt people, hurt people. So, stop holding onto your wounds as your false identity. When someone is rude, mean, or disrespectful to you or someone you love, don’t wait till they ask for forgiveness. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. While you were still a sinner, Christ forgave you. Give to others what you are willing to receive from Christ. That requires patience and understanding.

Proverbs 14:29Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

If you hold onto your pain, you will become quick-tempered, and resentment will poison your mind and you will become gifted at wounding others. Then you will be part of the madness that wounds others to survive. Wounds that are picked at never heal, but wounds that are tended to by Christ’s love become scars that remind us of our Saviors healing love.

Are you ready to let go of the wound that has been controlling your life? Turn to God in prayer, forgiving the person who hurt you through Christ’s strength. Make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive anyone who offends you.
When you have been wounded, you have a choice. You can hold on to your pain and be destroyed by resentment, or you can choose to forgive and be free in Christ.

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
When has someone forgiven you when you were in the wrong? How did that effect your heart towards them and God?
