Don’t Let Guilt Control You

Don’t Let Guilt Control You

Don’t Let Guilt Control You

Psalm 51:10-12

How does guilt affect our lives? Guilt is a thief and an oppressor. It will steal your joy and leave you mentally broken and depressed. Eventually the sickness will go from your mind to your body as stress gives birth to high blood pressure, and other physical ailments.

Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me
.

When king David had sinned in a big way, guilt eventually overtook him and got a stronghold in his life. He was bound with guilt and shame and spent a long time not dealing with his sin. Eventually other areas of his life were infected, and his life became like an untreated wound. Finally, he turned to the only one who could set him free from his guilt.

What sins are you feeling struggling with today? God will restore your Joy.

John 8:31-36

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Slavery is ugly and evil, and it leads to death. It doesn’t make sense to be free and yet still act like we are slaves to sin. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are no longer a slave to sin, you are a child of God. We will experience the blessings of our position in Christ as we obey God’s word. We are free in Christ, so let’s enjoy our freedom.
