Don’t Bully Your Bullies
Hebrew 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
When we are harassed moment, of course we want to fight back. It takes faith to overcome the flesh. Only through our faith can we battle darkness with light. Our Savior suffered greatly at the hands of evil men. Instead of summoning the angels to come down and wipe out everyone who was involved in His crucifixion, Christ died on the cross for them and us.
Instead of getting even, we can turn to Him for the strength to overcome evil with good. We must not give in to our desire for justice to push us into becoming the bully to our bullies. In the moment of escalation, stop, breathe, and pray for wisdom that comes only from above.
Romans 12:17-19 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
Why does God want us to pray for our bullies?
When we respond to evil with evil, we become a part of the problem. Responding to evil with good goes against our desire for justice. The problem with man’s justice is it’s my justice not God’s justice. When someone is harassing us, how do we overcome evil with good? This is where we get a chance to truly live out our faith in real time.
Jesus prayed for His enemies when he was facing death, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” What a witness it would be if we can follow in His footsteps and repay evil with good. Let’s commit beforehand to pray for those who persecute us.
If you’re willing to consistently pray for one of your enemies, it will change your heart towards that person.
